Rooting is the
equivalent of Android to jailbreaking, a way to unlock the operating system in
order to install unapproved applications, remove unwanted programs, update the
operating system, replace the firmware, overclock the processor, customize
anything, etc. .
Of course, for the
average user, this sounds like, and can be, a scary process. After all,
"tracing" the central software of your smartphone may seem like a
recipe for disaster. A wrong move and you could end up with a brick headset.
Fortunately, there
is a utility that turns rooting into a one-click affair: KingoRoot. It's free
and it works, but not with all the devices.
Originally I tried
Kingo on Virgin Mobile Supreme and Asus Nexus 7; The process was quick and
easy. More recently, I used it to root on OnePlus One, and this time it was
easier, because one application did all the work.
However, you do
not have to make the utility work on a Samsung Galaxy S6 from Verizon. Your
mileage may vary, of course, and I definitely recommend checking the
compatibility list before continuing. The utility can work with it. Here is how
to start.
